”The flower-filled field looked amazing! Bright red, shiny yellow and radiating whites cover the green field with their happy faces. A glance at my watch made me realize I had spent an hour roaming around the field, picking the prettiest and best flowers and greens. It felt like only 5 minutes. Some broken flower-stems around […]
There is no place where the circle of life is more visible than in nature. The radical acceptance of the inevitable, death, becomes obvious when working with anything that lives, the accompanying emotions included. Flowers can show you some valuable life lessons.
The circle of life
The cycle of (re)birth and death can be uncomfortable to us. Our preference lies with a blossoming life, feeling the full potential of life and experiencing that in every fiber of our bodies. Spring and summer are usually our favorite seasons, our 20’ till 40’s our favorite age and on average we’re most productive between 10h and 14h during our days.
We love our flowers when the petals just come out of the bulb. We buy our flowers in this stage to ensure we can enjoy them as long as possible. Flower seeds are not considered beautiful and up for display nor are the decayed left overs of what once was a blossoming flower. But the life of anything, is an all-inclusive journey. Without the seed, you won’t have a flower and decayed flowers and plants can serve as fertilizer for the young seeds.
Let flowers be your teacher
Each stage of life has its beauty. Have you ever seen the immense growth-energy that a seed has when the sprout works its way through the hard shell of the seed. Such power! Just like that moment the bulb opens giving display to its colorful petals. Each petal with a unique set of coloring and the scent that fills your space. So flourishing! But after some time the energy starts to decrease. The flower served its purpose to blossom and slowly retreats. Little wrinkles in the petals show up, the color starts to fade and change and the scent is less strong. The flower is on its way to serve the earth as fertilizer giving back it’s fulfilled life of beauty to new life. Truly humbling! This phase can make you feel a little sad.
Accepting what is
You may want to ask yourself: Can you accept life as a whole, respecting and seeing the beauty in each phase. Or are you struggling with loss and the outlook of fading (life) energy? Let flowers be your teacher. Let them show you the way to acceptance of full circle of life!
